Top 3 Things I Learned From Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella

Satya Nadella, the talk of the software world's town had his birthday on 20th August. Satya is not only a mastermind in business execution but also an idol for a lot of people like me. This definitely feels ambiguous to call someone an idol whom I didn't even know before he became the CEO. However, I had keen interest in Microsoft Technologies and have been following them for a little over half a decade. Acknowledging Satya's recent achievements and strategies, I can say for sure that there are at least three things that I learned from him:

1. Success doesn't come immediately, but definitely

We had no idea who he was, what he was doing, where he was doing. But one fine day, he suddenly became the CEO of Microsoft Corp. (4th Feb 2014) and all of us began cheering him up, leaving our works, from around the world. He suddenly became the news of the tech world.

However, what most of us missed out was his continual struggle and willingness to "do more", that made him what he is today. He never gave up. He was on a roll on continual promotion over years. This is a list of the main positions he had been assigned to, before finally becoming the CEO:

1. He worked in Sun Microsystems till 1992.

2. Executive Vice-President of Cloud and Enterprise group in Microsoft.

3. Corporate Vice-President of Business Solutions and Search & Advertising Platform Group in Microsoft.

4. Vice-President of the Business Division in Microsoft.

5. Senior Vice-President of Research and Development for the Online Services Division (March 2007 – February 2011) in Microsoft.

6. President of the Server & Tools Division (9 February 2011 – February 2014) in Microsoft.

7. Finally, on 4 February 2014, he was announced as the new CEO of Microsoft.

2. Skills beat brand

He was not from an IIT. Neither were, the most of the famous people you've heard of. Rather, he was from a second tier college from Manipal University. But, not being an IITian didn't stop his dream come true. He kept working hard on his own. Day in, day out. He believed in online learning. He called himself a 'lifelong learner' and still takes online classes in his spare time. Imagine, he is the CEO of one of the greatest software company in the world!

Seriously, Internet is a treasure full of knowledge. You either use it, or it uses you. Choice is yours. Result is yours.

3. Follow your passion, not the crowd

You don't have to do what everyone else is doing. You don't have to do what everyone wants you to do. You don't have to do what you think is a waste of time.

"Do what you love doing. And do it well."

That's what Satya did. He did B.Tech in Electronics & Communication Engineering. In an Interview he revealed, he wasn't exactly aware of what B.Tech in ECE meant until the very end. And later he realized, that he was not doing where his interest lied.

He loved coding. He loved cloud computation. He loved coding so much that even in his leisure time when he wrote poems, he'd compare it with coding! So, he followed what he loved and later, when became capable, did an M.Tech from USA in C.S.E. After that, he joined Sun Microsystems followed by Microsoft.
